A part of the National Museum of Arts of Moldova will be reconstructed by the end of next year. The museum’s administration and Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca, on behalf of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, on October 8 signed a memorandum that envisions the allocation of €1 million for the works, IPN reports.
“I assure you that we will implement this project during 12 months. I know it won’t be easy as our capacities in the area of restoration are not exceptional, but we have a series of specialists whom we will fully involve in this project,” said the museum’s director Tudor Zbarnea.
The Romanian diplomat said the Moldovan restorers have a high potential and this fact encourages Romania to come with such projects. “Such inaugural events will go on. The next days you will see similar projects that will be launched,” stated Marius Lazurca.
Attending the event, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said this building is a visiting card of Chisinau and the whole country. It is an architectural monument of a rare beauty built at the start of the 20th century. The repair works at the museum have lasted for over 10 years as not enough money can be allocated from the state budget. “This donation by the Romanian state represents assistance on the part of friends who realize the importance of arts and culture in the spiritual life of our people,” she stated.
The museum is based in the building of the former secondary school for girls founded by Princess Natalia Dadiani. The building was erected in Italian renaissance style. The museum was founded at the end of 1939, but its collections were lost during the war. It was re-founded in 1944.
