Some 1,200 tonnes of the 6,000 tonnes donated by Romania for Moldovan farmers were handed over to the Moldovan authorities in an official ceremony on May 17, IPN reports.

According to the Embassy of Romania, the 6,000 tonnes of diesel fuel will be fully delivered to Moldova in the immediate period, by a number of successive shipments. The Embassy of Romania is confident that the Moldovan authorities will take measures to ensure the transparent and equitable utilization of the support provided by Romania.

President Maia Sandu in a post on Facebook says the first part of the fuel reached the Ocnița station from where the Material Reserves Agency is to ensure its distribution to farmers.

“We thank Romania for being near us in difficult times and also in good times. We will attentively monitor the process of distributing the diesel fuel. This assistance should swiftly reach the farmers who need it the most. The Material Reserves Agency should ensure a transparent and fair process,” stated President Sandu.

The humanitarian assistance forms part of the package of support for the Republic of Moldova announced by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis during the official visit he made to Chisinau on December 29, 2020. The humanitarian aid supplements the donation of over 300,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses and medical equipment to the value of €2.3 million made by Romania to the Republic of Moldova.
