The former candidate for the post of prosecutor general Vitalie Parlog, who was elected by the contest commission, confirmed that he gave up running for the post given that some of the factions want in continuation to politicize this post, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, Parlog says that as a result of the discussions he had with the Head of Parliament on April 17, he established that in the current political situation, no candidate for prosecutor general has chances to gain the necessary number of votes in Parliament, even if they are selected at a public and transparent contest, are recommended by the contest commission and have the highest moral and professional values.

“By this, the political class showed once again that it is not yet ready to promote integral and non-docile persons,” it is said in the communiqué.

The commission for selecting the candidate for the post of prosecutor general, which was created by order of Speaker Marian Lupu, proposed Vitalie Parlog, who was minister of justice in 2006-2009, for this post. Marian Lupu repeatedly said that he will propose the candidate chosen by the commission to Parliament for examination, no matter who he is. The factions of the PCRM, PLDM and PL said they will not support Parlog.

After Parlog gave up, Marian Lupu decided to field the well-known law expert Corneliu Gurin for this post. According to the Speaker, he had discussions with the factions and understood that this candidate can garner the necessary number of votes. The issue may be examined in the April 18 sitting of Parliament.
