Parlicov met with the head of Gazprom. What did they discuss?

The Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, held a meeting with the head of the Russian company "Gazprom," Alexei Miller. The Russian concern announced that "the parties agreed to continue discussions on options for organizing the supply of Russian natural gas to Moldova starting January 1, 2025, as well as ways to settle the debts of JSC 'Moldovagaz' to the Russian company," reports IPN.

In the press release issued by "Gazprom," it is mentioned that "current issues of cooperation in the gas sector were discussed during the meeting." Additionally, the Moldovan side presented candidates for the new composition of the Board of Directors of JSC "Moldovagaz." Other details, including potential decisions, have not been disclosed.

The Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, is in St. Petersburg on November 24-25 for talks with "Gazprom" about continuing Russian gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region, as the transit agreement through Ukraine expires on January 1, 2025. Additionally, Chișinău and Moscow were to approve the candidates proposed by Moldova for the Board of Directors of JSC "Moldovagaz."

The Ministry of Energy has not yet provided details about the discussions or potential decisions made in St. Petersburg.

The Ministry of Energy later clarified that the parties discussed the supply of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova (in the Transnistrian region) based on the existing contract after January 1, particularly in case the transit through Ukraine is interrupted.

Additionally, during the meeting, the members of the Board of Directors of SA "Moldovagaz" proposed by the Ministry of Energy were presented. These include Dorin Junghietu for the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors, Vadim Ceban for the position of Vice Chairman, and Eduard Calancea and Radu Mandraburca for the positions of Board members. "In the near future, these candidates will undergo a repeated voting procedure," the statement added.
