The extraordinary meeting in Parliament, scheduled for today, June 28, has been canceled after the governing Alliance for European Integration decided the meeting hadn't been coordinated with the Parliament's Standing Bureau and that it was ill-timed, Info-Prim Neo reports. Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said on Monday morning, after the meeting of the Alliance, that he wouldn't recall his presidential decree concerning June 28, but made no further comments, explaining he was in a hurry to attend the unveiling of a commemorative stone in Chisinau's central plaza dedicated to the victims of the communist regime. Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the president of the Liberal Democratic Party, said a joint decision of the Alliance was needed before hearing the Report on the assessment of the totalitarian communist regime in Moldova. At the same time, Democrat leader Marian Lupu said there was no reason for Parliament to hear the report in question since the commission presenting it was established by presidential decree. Marian Lupu added that the Alliance's meeting this morning took place in a calm atmosphere, with arguments brought forth by all parties and without emotions. “Naturally the minority complied with the majority's decision”, said Maran Lupu. The Democrat leader also said he was expecting the brief of the Constitutional Court on the decree, which was requested by the Communist opposition at the end of last week. Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance and also deputy Parliament Speaker, avoided to make any comments. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Communist Party Secretary Iurie Muntean said the Alliance got scared of the people's reaction, of the Communists' reaction, as well as of the reaction of the foreign partners. Muntean also criticized the position of the Democratic Party, which despite joining the Socialist International recently, “supports extremist parties like the Liberals and the Liberal-Democrats”. The Communists Party on Friday published an appeal calling on the Alliance members to oust Mihai Ghimpu from the post of Speaker and consequently acting President.
