Representatives of the parliamentary parties expressed opposing opinions about the necessity of rerunning the presidential runoff, even if they admitted that a number of violations were committed. The issue was developed in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea said the election outcome cannot be disputed. “In the history of the Republic of Moldova, no politician gained such a large number of votes as Igor Dodon. This is an indisputable result. It’s regrettable that a part of those from the diaspora could not vote. We often drew attention to this issue. In the Russian Federation, where most of the Moldovans work, only eight polling places were set up,” he stated.

Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu noted that not all the objections can be classed as violations. “The organized transportation of voters to polling places is not a violation and the legislation does not stipulate punishment for this. If someone campaigns when the people are taken to polls this is a violation,” he said.

Liberal MP Ion Apostol said the presidential elections were won by the pro-Russian candidate owing to the split among the voters of the right. “The lack of cooperation on the segment of the right led to this result,” he stated.

Deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Andrei Spanu said the presidential elections have been rigged. “There were reported multiple violations and the runoff should be therefore invalidated. We collect evidence and will challenge the election outcome,” he stated.
