The parliamentary majority will soon start to form the governmental team for the candidate for Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who is the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party. The announcement was made by the Democratic Party’s chairman Marian Lupu and the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu after a discussion they had with President Nicolae Timofti, before this signed the presidential decree to nominate Pavel Filip, IPN reports.

“We are entering a constitutional phase of forming the governmental team and working out the government program. Yesterday we had a longer discussion inside the PDM’s Political Bureau and ascertained a difficult situation at the internal, regional and world levels. We expressed our concerns about the social indicators and underlined the necessity of solving the problems. In this connection, our colleague Vlad Plahotniuc suggested finding a solution to hasten the resolution of the political problems so that we could invest a new Government as soon as possible. Therefore, we decide to field Pavel Filip,” stated Marian Lupu.

For his part, Mihai Ghimpu said he is glad that they managed to overcome the early elections as these mean greater chaos for the country. “It’s time to work for the people. We hope we will be able to vote the new Cabinet in. The key problem was solved. The candidate was proposed. We are to only discuss the Cabinet’s composition. I think the structure will remain the same,” he stated.

The decree to designate Pavel Filip as a candidate for premiership was signed after the previous candidate Ion Paduraru withdrew his candidacy.
