The salaries of the senior government officials, such as President, MPs and minsters, should be decreased to the average official salary, which is of almost 7,000 lei. The money saved this way can be used to provide support to the healthcare system amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said MPs of the Pro Moldova group who presented a relevant legislative proposal, IPN reports.
The group’s leader Andrian Candu told a news conference that there are many officials in Moldova who have salaries of tens of thousands of lei a month. “We suggest capping the salaries of these to 6,900 lei, which is the average official salary, for the rest of the year starting with April 1. We have many people in our country who survive or manage on 7,000 lei and consider that all the public functionaries can manage on 7,000 lei until this yearned. Instead, this economic and budgetary measure will enable the country to save almost 100 million lei and this money can be used for other purposes,” explained Andrian Candu.
Another proposal concerns the financing of parties from the state budget. The MPs propose that the parties should renounce the over 38 million lei planned for the purpose in 2020. Andrian Candu said this amount could go to stimulate doctors who are in the front line in this period of pandemic and to purchase supplies for the healthcare system.
Pro Moldova also suggests that the savings from infrastructure projects should be used to create a fund for supporting the business sector. It said the payment of taxes and interest rates on bank loans and presentation of reports should be deferred.
The members of the Pro Moldova group ask that this bill should be approved by the Government as swiftly as possible so that it is later adopted by Parliament in an emergency meeting. They said they are ready to include measures proposed by mates of other parliamentary groups in this proposal.
