The 2025 regular parliamentary elections are set to take place on a Sunday within the period of July 11 – October 11. This clarification was made by Polina Panainte, Secretary of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, IPN reports.
Polina Panainte explained that the four-year parliamentary term is calculated from the election date, not from the first session of the newly elected legislature.
Thus, the mandate of the current parliament expires on July 11, as the last parliamentary elections were held on July 11, 2021. This interpretation is supported by the Constitutional Court’s ruling of November 10, 1997, Panainte added.
The exact election date will be determined by a parliamentary decision, which must be adopted at least 70 days before the election day.
