The legislative body next week will have a special sitting on June 20, when hearings on the Transnistrian issue will be held. Unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea proposed that this sitting should take place on June 14, but the MPs accepted the Liberal-Democrats’ proposal to organize it next week, IPN reports.

In the Parliament’s sitting, there will questioned officials of the Reintegration Office, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, the Security and Information Service, and the Joint Control Commission. “What is going on now in Varnita obliges us to discuss this issue and to decide what steps should be taken to protect the state,” said Mihai Godea.

The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the hearings cannot be held on June 14 as Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and President Nicolae Timofi are not in the country.

This week, the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a so-called law on the state border of Transnistria. The border includes Bender town and three villages, among which Varnita.

In a statement issued by the official Chisinau in reaction, it is said that Tiraspol’s decision runs counter to the legal framework and the logic of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process as well as to the real needs and interests of the people living on the banks of the Nistru River.
