Parliament to celebrate 25 years of independence together with European officials

The legislative body will mark the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence by a festive program that will involve important European parliamentary delegations. The ceremony will be held on September 9, IPN reports.

The event will involve Speakers, Deputy Speakers and MPs of the legislatures of 11 countries, namely Ukraine, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Serbia, Turkey and Albania, as well as MEP Andi Cristea, who is the co-chairman of the Moldova – EU Parliamentary Association Committee, Petras Austrevicius, who is the European Parliament’s Rapporteur for Moldova, and Prince Radu of Romania.

The program will start with laying of flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy. The delegations will visit the renovated Parliament Building, where they will have a common meeting with Speaker Andrian Candu and Deputy Speakers Liliana Palihovici and Vladimir Vitiuc.

The official ceremony dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence will take place at the Palace of the Republic, starting at 11am. This will involve about 300 invitees, including senior state officials, MPs, minsters, ambassadors, representatives of the development partners, civil society and academic community, and people of culture.

The Palace of the Republic will also host a photo exhibition entitled “25 Years of Independence”. In the course of the day, Andrian Candu will have separate meetings with the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland Christa Markwalder, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Gundars Daudze, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Algirdas Sysas and Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ahmet Aydin.

The parliamentary delegations will also visit such tourist facilities as the Museum Complex “Orheiul Vechi” and the underground galleries in Cricova.
