More than 50 drawings showing the children’s view about the European Union were exhibited in the hall of the Parliament Building on May 13. This way the legislative body started a series of activities by which it will mark Europe Day. At the beginning of the May 13 sitting, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said that Europe Day is not related to the calendar only. It implies a lot of work and patience and these values should be found in Parliament and in the country too, IPN reports.
The Speaker noted that those who founded the EU 66 years ago did it with a lot of courage and knew at that moment that considerable effort must be made for peace and understanding to dominate on the European continent. “On this occasion, on behalf of the legislature, I offer our congratulations and thanks for the support provided by the European states whose representatives are now in Parliament,” said the official, addressing the EU ambassadors attending the sitting.
Andrian Candu stated that drawings representing the children’s opinion about the European Union were exhibited in the hall. There will be chosen the best 12 drawings that will be included in the Parliament’s calendar for 2017. Also, the Government of Romania provides places at Romanian camps to children who took part in this exhibit.
The drawings were made by children aged between 6 and 16 from community centers located in Chisinau municipality, from the Child’s House “Blessed Iosif” and from different districts of the country. They transmitted their works though the agency of the Parliament’s local information offices.
On the occasion of Europe Day, a light show will be also staged on the Parliament Building starting at 9pm. There will be projected the colors of the flag of Europe and of Moldova’s flag. At broad level, Europe Day will be celebrated on May 14 by different activities in the central park of Chisinau and in other settlements of the country.
