Parliament has set up an inquiry commission to look into how mineral resources are being exploited in Moldova and determine the environmental impact of the industry, IPN reports.
The commission has four months to submit a report. It will have to review the information gathered by a similar commission which was created for the same purpose in the previous legislature, but which didn’t accomplish the job due to the snap election getting in the way.
The proposal was endorsed with the vote of 78 MPs. The commission will be chaired by Ina Coșeru (PAS), its deputy chair will be Radu Mudreac (BCS), and Mariana Cușnir (BCS) will serve as its secretary. Inga Sibova (BCS), Irina Lozovan (BCS), Reghina Apostolova (ShP), Lilian Carp (PAS), Vladimir Bolea (PAS), Ion Babici (PAS), and Veronica Roșca (PAS) will also sit on the commission.
PM Vladimir Voronin (BCS) stressed that “mineral resources are a source of fantastic enrichment that is exploited by many people” and that order is needed to be made in this industry.
Also today, the lawmakers established a commission of parliamentary monitoring and control to see how Moldova’s reintegration policies are being implemented. The commission is chaired by Deputy Speaker Mihai Popșoi (PAS) and brings together nine other members. The commission is to report its findings at least once in six months and submit recommendations if any.
