The legislative body on May 28 ratified the agreement of cooperation with Eurojust, which enables to accelerate and facilitate the execution of expulsion and reciprocal legal assistance requests, IPN reports.

Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin said in Parliament that the ratification of the accord is an important step towards meeting the international standards and implementing principles related to the cooperation of the law enforcement bodies.

The accord was signed in The Hague in July 2014. It is one of the priorities of the plan of action for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU and the policy matrix on budget support within the visa dialogue for 2014-2016.

Under the agreement, Moldova is to appoint a liaison prosecutor at Eurojust, while Eurojust will delegate a liaison judge for Moldova.

Eurojust is an agency of the European Union dealing with judicial cooperation in criminal matters. It was created to improve handling of serious cross-border and organized crime by stimulating investigative and prosecutorial co-ordination among agencies of the EU Member States. Eurojust signed cooperation agreements with Norway, Iceland, the U.S., Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Liechtenstein and Switzerland and is holding negotiations with other third countries.
