Parliament voted on Tuesday to propose the President to appoint Dumitru Robu as Acting Prosecutor General, IPN reports.
Presenting the draft decision, Deputy Speaker Alexandru Slusari stated that a contest was not organized because the legislation does not provide for this. "We made this decision based on the submitted CVs. (Dumitru Robu) is a relatively young person, he is not mentioned in any journalistic investigations of the independent press. He meets all the conditions of the Law on the Prosecution Service”, mentioned Alexandru Slusari (ACUM/DA).
MP Sergiu Sîrbu (PDM) asked what the rush was. He was puzzled that Dumitru Robu did not appear in Parliament's plenary sitting to answer questions. His group fellow member, Andrian Candu, also said that it would be a good idea if Dumitru Robu appeared before Parliament for questions. According to the parliamentarian, "the fate of criminal cases depends on what is happening in Parliament today, starting from the moment when this candidate will be appointed by presidential decree."
MP Vlad Bătrîncea (PSRM) said that "the whole society is waiting for the liberation of the prosecution bodies". "The whole society expects, once and for all, the prosecutor's offices, the law enforcement bodies to take legal measures for the criminals who committed bank robberies, privatizations, illegal concessions." The deputy encouraged the candidate "to be bold and to free the institution of the prosecutor's office from the control of a political party".
MP Octavian Țîcu (ACUM/DA) mentioned that people need to understand that it is a circumstantial measure. "A measure of circumstance precisely from the reasoning that we at the present time intend to clean the state of the institutions that have been taken over by a single party. And I ask the citizens of this country, who have a lot of questions, to understand that justice cannot be changed in 30 days and in three months. This system has been created for 30 years and this is only an important first step, and I ask our citizens to be understanding”, said the deputy.
Put up for a vote, the proposal was supported by 78 MPs.
