The legislative body confirmed three law professors as members of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors, for a four-year term. These are Gheorghe Matu, Igor Hadarca and Ghenadie Fortuna, IPN reports.
The bill to name the three members of the Council was put to the vote again in the December 24 sitting of Parliament as the December 23 voting was annulled through insufficiency of votes.
The Communist faction said the Parliament’s Regulations were violated as a rejected legislative initiative cannot be put again to the vote. The Communists also said that the Liberal reformers, who initially refused to support the candidates, changed their opinion after holding negotiations with the other components of the coalition. They negotiated and obtained thus four posts of deputy ministers.
The Supreme Council of Prosecutors consists of 12 members. Three are ex officio members, three are elected by Parliament, while six are elected by the General Assembly of Prosecutors.
