Parliament is to pass new law to remove trade barriers

The adoption of the bill on compliance assessment and accreditation by Parliament represents an important objective aimed at adjusting the national legislation to the European norms, considers Nona Luscalov, division head at the Ministry of Economy, Info-Prim Neo reports. The bill was approved by the Government in August 2010 and is designed to remove the trade barriers by harmonizing the national principles used to accredit the compliance assessing organizations with those applied in the EU. These principles will constitute a grantee of the safety and quality of the products. According to the Ministry of Economy, 2,135 standards were adopted in January - September 2010 – 1,111 national standards identical to the international ones (ISO/CEI), and 1,024 national standards identical to the European ones (EN). The steps taken in the area of metrology in 2010 focused on the development of the legal framework, its adjustment to the international and European requirements and on the ensuring of measurement uniformity. A number of actions were taken to update the national standards system. The regional comparisons within the regional metrology organization COOMET were continued. The activities in the area of quality infrastructure will be stepped up this year so as to increase the competitiveness of the Moldovan products on foreign markets.
