The legislative body of the Republic of Moldova is on a leave until September 13, after finishing the spring-summer session on Saturday, July 29. At those 32 plenary sittings of the 3d session of the 16th legislature Parliament, 300 laws and decisions were adopted, the Speaker Marian Lupu declared at the end of the last sitting. Among the most important, Lupu mentioned the package of laws regarding the budgetary-fiscal policy for 2007, the laws on state enterprises, on medium and small business, the Law on regulating entrepreneurship, on canceling visas for citizens of the EU member states and several other countries, the Law on ensuring equality between genders, etc. The Speaker also said that the Parliament took attitude towards several important political events through adopting declarations, such as regarding the artificial tensioning on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border; regarding to the so-called plebiscite in September, etc. Additionally, the Parliament has ratified 24 international acts leading to Moldova’s adhesion to several treaties and conventions, such as the Convention on migrant workers, Convention on fighting trafficking in human beings. During this session, the Legislative received 2200 petitions and appeals, tackling different subjects. The speaker also emphasized that this was the longest session of the year, and resembles “a marathon, based on its results and duration.” The autumn-winter session will commence on September 13.
