The MPs return to work on September 3. This is the last session of the current legislature, which is the shortest one, of only three months. After November 30, when the mandate of the current legislative body expires, Parliament enters the interim period and the MPs will come together only for extraordinary sittings, if the Speaker of Parliament convenes the Standing Bureau to agree the agenda.

The explanation was provided by Victor Juc, vice director of the Institute for Legal and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Contacted by IPN, Victor Juc said the autumn-winter session can be extended until December 30. However, given that the electoral period starts on December 24, which is 60 days before the ordinary parliamentary elections, the MPs will have to close the session by November 30.

After November 30, Parliament can have extraordinary sittings, but cannot adopt organic laws and the budget, cannot amend the Constitution, etc.

The autumn-winter session of Parliament starts on September 3. An order to this effect was signed by Speaker Andrian Candu. The legislative body will come together for the first plenary sitting when the Parliament’s Standing Bureau suggests, after the agenda is drafted.
