The Parliament Friday named four titular members of the Supreme Council of Magistrates. These are law experts Alexandru Arseni, Boris Negru, Igor Dolea and Vasile Cretu, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The candidates worked in higher education establishments, participated in the examination of a number of laws and are known as experts in constitutional law.
Communist MP Anatolie Zagorodnai said Alexandru Arseni is a member of the Liberal Party and was included in the list of substitute candidates of this party.
Alexandru Arseni replied that he had always been an active member of the PL, but when he was fielded as a candidate for member of the Supreme Council of Magistrates he filed an application to be suspended.
The Supreme Council of Magistrates consists of 12 members: five judges, who are elected by the community of judges, four titular members, who are elected by the Parliament, and three ex officio members – the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General.
The General Assembly of Judges elected three of its five representatives on October 31. These are judges Nicolae Timofti, Nichifor Corochii and Anatol Turcanu. The judges will come together for a new meeting on November 28 to elect two more members of the Council.
