Parliament dismisses Nicolae Timofti from post of judge

The MPs discharged Nicolae Timofti from the post of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice by a unanimous vote on Thursday, May 10, Info-Prim Neo reports. The resignation was tendered by Nicolae Timofti on March 23, following his election as President of Moldova on March 16. Lawmaker Victor Popa, who heads the legal commission on appointments and immunities, said that Nicolae Timofti was dismissed by Parliament only from the post of judge. His dismissal from the position of chairman of the Supreme Council of Magistrates is within the competence of the Council. In the same meeting, the MPs adopted decisions whereby Constantin Gurschi was named vice president of the Supreme Court of Justice and chairman of the Court’s Penal Board, while Iulia Sarcu was appointed as deputy chairwoman of the Court’s Civil and Administrative Claims Board.
