The Democratic group filed a motion today in Parliament criticizing Natalia Gavrilița’s two months in office as minister of finance, demanding her resignation.

MP Vladimir Cebotari accused Gavrilița of “ineffectiveness and inability to accumulate revenue”, and in particular criticized her proposals to cancel meal vouchers and reinstate a standard VAT rate in the hospitality industry.

Besides demanding Gavrilița’s resignation, the Democrats request that the IMF agreement conditions are published and that the fiscal policies are reversed.

In response, Speaker Zinaida Greceanîi said the motion will be examined by Parliament’s Standing Bureau. “For what it’s worth, it would have made more sense if you waited for the new minister to complete at least three months in office,” she added.

Replying on Facebook, Natalia Gavrilița dismissed the motion as “manipulation of public opinion and falsehoods” and said that she is always ready to report before Parliament and the people. The minister is expected to do that next week. “I will appear (before Parliament) to explain all the fraudulent schemes of the previous government that I’ve learned about since I took my job at the Ministry of Finance, about how they stuck their hands into people’s pockets and about the 4 billion lei hole in the budget that we inherited from them,” said Gavrilița.
