2016 was declared the Year of Mihai Grecu. Parliament adopted a decision to this effect on April 21, IPN reports.
In the legislature’s sitting, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said the bill was drafted by the Ministry with the aim of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous Moldovan painter Mihai Grecu. By the impressive number of paintings and exhibitions, this imposed his works, arousing political and ideological debates. His paintings are kept in the largest art galleries in the ex-Soviet area and hold interest owing to the technological innovations used to make them.
Mihai Grecu is considered an innovator and a complex personality who revolutionized the plastic arts in Moldova. His paintings “Hospitality”, “Recruits”, “Autumn day”, “Dinner in the field”, “Old mill” and “Girls from Ceadar-Lunga” form part of the golden collection of the Moldovan painting.
