Parliament could set up a special fund for the residents of Cahul district, which will be used to pay damages to the people whose homes were affected owing to the large trucks that transport goods to the port in Giurgiulesti, stated Speaker Andrian Candu, who will suggest to Parliament to examine the creation of this fund that will be regularly supplemented, IPN reports.

According to the legislature’s press office, the statement was made during a working visit to Cahul district. Andrian Candu discussed with the local authorities and asked for comprehensive informant about the issue so that the damage could be gauged. A number of people said the walls of their houses cracked. The local authorities proposed building a highway that will bypass Cahul town. This project is being implemented and a sum of 6 million lei was earmarked in the 2016 state budget for the purpose.

The Speaker informed that Cahul district is to benefit from a series of regional development projects that will be implemented with European funds too. This will contribute to the modernization of the southern region of the country. The signing of a program with the IMF will mean access to European funds, first of all for infrastructure projects. About €300 million was planned to be used in this regard during the next two years and the residents of Cahul district could also benefit from this money.

Among other subjects discussed were the problems faced by farmers, the situation of the people living in the meadow of the Prut River, who are frequently affected by floods, the difficulties experienced by small schools and the implementation of projects to modernize infrastructure.
