It is four years since the devastation of the Parliament Building, but the repair works haven’t been yet completed and MPs’ offices continue to be in the Agriculture Ministry’s building, while the legislative body’s sittings continue to take place at the Palace of the Republic. Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction Anatolie Zolotkov has told IPN that the contractors are waiting for the state budget to be modified so that money is earmarked for repair works. The end of March was the last announced deadline for finishing the works.

”It doesn’t depend on us. We are now waiting for the budget law to be amended so that the amounts that weren’t allocated last year are allotted now. When there is money, we will announce a deadline for the completion of works,” said the deputy minister.

Alexandru Gutu, director of the company that is performing the works, has told IPN that the works are 70% completed. Only 109 million lei of the necessary 177 million lei was allocated last year. The Parliament’s assembly hall, the offices of MPs and of the legislature’s employees are yet to be repaired. If the money is disbursed soon, the works may be carried out by the end of this year.

Last October, they announced that the repair works will be completed at the beginning of 2013, but the shortage of funds led to a delay. The Parliament Building was devastated during the April 7, 2009 protests.  The repair works were stopped in 2010 and then resumed in August 2012.
