On Friday, May 4, the Parliament appointed Natalia Moldovanu to the office of vice-president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) for a 4-year period. Moldovanu was also appointed as the chair of the Economic Panel of SCJ. Also today, Parliament designated Mihail Martanenco as deputy chair of the Criminal Panel of SCJ, and Vera Macinscaiaas as deputy chair of the Civil and Administrative Panel. They have also been appointed for a 4-year period. A number of opposition MPs mentioned that Macinscaia conducted the case of Basarabia Metropolitan Church, which later reached ECHR. In retort, she mentioned that Moldova loses a large number of cases at ECHR because the judges do not know well the Court’s legislation and due to the imperfection of the legal framework in Moldova. Also on Friday, the Parliament dismissed Mihai Plamadeala as judge of SCJ at his request.
