The MPs adopted a statement on political armistice before the humanitarian crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the initiative of the parliamentary group Pro Moldova. According to the authors, by this statement the MPs pledge to act together, beyond political, ideological positions or reciprocal sympathies, so as to identify and promote solutions in a number of strategic areas, IPN reports.

“Given the necessity of a national consensus during the pandemic crisis, we declare an armistice to all the political disputes and pledge to concentrate all our efforts and capacities on diminishing the catastrophic effects of the pandemic by ensuring responsible governance,” runs the statement. Pro Moldova leader Andrian Candu said this statement stipulates the necessity of ensuring responsible governance that cannot be yet ensured by an outgoing Cabinet.

At the suggestion of the Socialist MPs, the statement was addressed to President Maia Sandu, who was invited to take part in consultations on the parliamentary platform so as to identify a candidate for Prime Minister in the spirit of the political culture and the constitutional spirit.

PPPDA MP Alexandru Slusari said they plead for investing an anti-crisis Government. If the institutional impasse between the President and Parliament is broken in the immediate period, the PPPDA will also come with a statement.

PAS MP Oazu Nantoi noted that this statement distorts the essence of the political crisis in Moldova as it is not an armistice between political parties, but represents the wish of the current Parliament, which lost its representativeness, to be maintained so that the Dodon-Plahotniuc duo could further control all the criminal schemes.

The Democratic leader Pavel Filip said he does not understand the impact of such a statement as it does not refer to the pandemic, but to the political war. He noted not an armistice, but discussions are needed.

The relevant draft decision was adopted by the votes of 57 MPs.
