The Parliament’s statement on the inviolability of the sovereignty, independence and permanent neutrality of the Republic of Moldova was adopted in the March 31 sitting of the legislature. The draft statement proposed by the Communists was carried by the votes of 62 Communist, Socialist and Democratic MPs and of the former Communists, IPN reports.
According to the authors, by this statement Parliament confirms its devotion to the incontestable principle enshrined in Article 1 of the Constitution, which stipulates that the Republic of Moldova is a sovereign and independent, unitary and undividable state.
The legislative body also stated that the permanent neutrality proclaimed by the Constitution represents not only a manifestation of the peaceful and friendly character of the existence and development of the state, but also an acknowledged necessity.
The statement calls on the representatives of the public authorities, intellectual elite, parties and political movements to combine forces to defend and ensure the unconditional respect for the sovereignty, independence, individuality and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova.
By this statement, Parliament also calls upon the international organizations and the states of the world to support the initiative to keep Moldova’s sovereignty.
