The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on Thursday adopted a statement condemning Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine. The document proposed by the MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity says that Russia since February 2014 has waged an illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine and this was amplified by the large-scale invasion launched on February 24, 2022. The group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) left the assembly hall before the draft decision was put to the vote, while the MPs of the Shor Party boycotted the Parliament sitting, IPN reports.

At the start of the sitting, the BCS MPs proposed formulating and adopting a joint statement on the condemnation of the attempts to involve Moldova in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, on the observance by the authorities of the country’s status of neutrality and guaranteeing of peace in the Republic of Moldova, of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The PAS MPs voted against the introduction of the issue in the agenda. In protest, the Communists and the Socialists left the hall.

According to the statement adopted by a majority of votes, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova support the efforts made by the community of democratic states to institute a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, to impose punishment for war crimes and for all the violations of international humanitarian law committed by the Russian Federation and its acolytes in Ukraine.

The document confirms the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to further provide humanitarian assistances and support to the Ukrainians who are looking for refuge due to the war. The PAS MPs made a call for unity, vigilance and responsibility to all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who want peace and freedom.

The statement was adopted by the votes of 55 MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity.
