The legislative body accepted the resignation tendered by Iulian Muntean from the post of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), IPN reports.
Iulian Muntean was appointed member of the SCM by Parliament on September 7. In about two weeks, reports about his involvement in a criminal case started over passive corruption began to be circulated in the public sphere. He didn’t inform the pre-vetting commission about this fact.
Iulian Muntean argued that the so-called case was fabricated by order of the regime of Plahotniuc as an intimidation method. However, at the request of his mates from the SCM and of the minister of justice, he tenders his resignation to the Parliament’s Secretariat
A new contest will be announced to designate two SCM members from among non-judges - to fill the place that was vacated by Iulian Muntean and the vacancy of the sixth SCM member that hasn’t been yet designated by the legislature.
The Superior Council of Magistracy consists of 12 members. Six of them are chosen by the General Assembly of Judges from inside the system, while the other six, from among non-judges, are named by Parliament, by the votes of 3/5 of the elected MPs.
