The MPs unanimously voted to accept the resignation of Corneliu Gurin from the post of prosecutor general. This announced his resignation in the morning of February 26, saying the reformation of the prosecution service must begin from the top, IPN reports.

Raisa Apolschii, head of the legal commission for appointments and immunities, said the prosecutor general can be dismissed from post before the expiration of his tenure at the suggestion of the Head of Parliament if the person tenders the resignation himself.

Liberal-Democratic MP Tudor Deliu inquired in accordance with which law the new prosecutor general will be designated given that the new law on the prosecution service was passed on February 25 and hasn’t yet taken effect. The new law provides that the prosecutor general will be chosen at a public contest.

Speaker Andrian Candu said they will decide the method of choosing the new prosecutor general within the legal commission, assuring he will not field a candidate next week already.

Corneliu Gurin was named prosecutor general in the summer of 2013 after his predecessor Valeriu Zubco resigned following the fatal hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest.
