The public association “Parlamentul-90”, which represents over 100 ex-MPs, said the Republic of Moldova is experiencing an acute social, economic and political crisis and the situation turned from bad into disastrous, while the performance of the current political class is one of the most disappointing. MPs of Moldova’s first Parliament of 1990-1994 said the ruling parties are unable to give up their ambitions and continue to encourage the irresponsibility of the functionaries and state bodies and, instead of taking measures to identify a compromise, promote a division policy.
Members of the association’s Administration Board, in a news conference at IPN on December 4, presented the resolution of the General Assembly of the MPs of Moldova’s Parliament of the 12th legislature, who signed the Declaration of Independence, and the opinions of some of the lawmakers of the Independence Parliament about the performance of the current government in the last few years.
“Parlamentul-90” secretary Nicolae Misail read the resolution, which says that the developments turned out to be the most disappointing ones and the behavior of the rulers, who caused crises one after another since 2009, during the last year had really disastrous consequences for democracy, for the European course and for the population in general.
“There was installed a regime that was taken over from the Communist government and reshaped into pretended pro-European state policy because only this way the stealing of billions of lei from the banking system, the fraudulent subsidies in economy, smuggling, tax evasion and the high level of corruption in all the state bodies, mainly justice, were made possible,” read Nicolae Misail. The document also says that the irresponsible actions or rather the inaction of the functionaries and institutions obliged to ensure the legality and functioning of the banking system led to the depreciation of the national currency, the rise in tariffs and other negative developments.
According to the signatories, the appearance of new political forces consisting of young people, persons who didn’t discredit themselves and who inspire confidence is one of the solutions for overcoming the current situation. “In fact, the people didn’t vote parties in the last elections, but the European course, but the irresponsibility of the current government spoiled not only the image and authority of the state before the foreign partners, but also the people’s opinions about the European course,” says the resolution signed by the members of “Parlamentul-90”.
The MPs of the first Parliament said the amendment of the Constriction, so that it allows for the direct election of the head of state, and the removal of the parliamentary immunity should be among the major goals. The managers of the state institutions that were to supervise the banking system should be dismissed and a plan of action for recovering the stolen bullions should be worked out.
Given the difficult situation, the lawmakers of the first Parliament call on the representatives of society not to remain indifferent to what is going on and to show civic activism within the legal and moral norms. The foreign partners are urged to further support Moldova’s European course, but not to support the current rulers and political leaders who discredited the European development model.
