The head of Centru district Vladimir Sarban says that world's biggest capitals don't have people like the ones in Chisinau, who make the city so charming. “Neither Paris, nor Rome have people like ours, who are so hardworking. It's sad we can't create proper conditions for them to work here and contribute to the flourishing of our country and not that of foreign ones. We must make it possible for them to prove their competitiveness here, not working in vain in some unknown place. If the country is prosperous, we'll have an enviable capital”, Vladimir Sarban told Info-Prim Neo. The district head stressed that Chisinau was the administrative Centru of the country, where everything is set in motion. “The whole industry, intellectuality and culture are concentrated here. We must admit some truths. Chisinau has a big weight in forming the state budget. It is also our mirror. Here we see the richness and the filth of the country”, he said. Vladimir Sarban explained that every locality celebrated its Patron Saint's Day, but Chisinau had been for years deprived of this holiday. The city day was celebrated, but it didn't coincide with the religious feast of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God. “It's a good thing we celebrate it again. It's a spiritual holiday, it's our religion and the people await it. We're used from childhood to celebrate the Patron Saint's Day”, said Sarban. Asked to describe a modern inhabitant of Chisinau, the district head answered that most of the current inhabitants come from other regions and have settled in Chisinau more or less recently. “A citizen of Chisinau doesn't have anything specific. We each brought something from the locality we come from. We are either great dancers, like in the north, or gifted singers like in the south. An inhabitant of Chisinau has the characteristics of all Moldovans and even those of other ethnicities who speak another language”, he added. Vladimir Sarban wishes that all the inhabitants of Chisinau participated more in solving the city's problems. The current situation was caused by people indifferent to what's happening around them. “We are geographically Europeans. In order to reach the level of Paris or Rome, we have to work. We need to aspire to be true Europeans through behavior and mentality”, appreciated Vladimir Sarban. {Vladimir Sarban graduated has one degree in engineering and another one in law. He served as senior consultant of the State Chancellery's Public Administration and Personnel Policy, then as Secretary of the Chisinau City Hall and Municipal Council. In 1998-1999 he was the head of Centru district and returned to this position in 2007.}
