The parents play an important role in the child’s life and bear responsibility for the children’s wellbeing. The children often do not know the dangers to which they are exposed and thus the parents should supervise and protect them from these dangers, Silvia Morgoci, coordinator of the campaign “Home without dangers for your child!”, said during the launch, Info-Prim Neo reports. Silvia Morgoci said the nationwide awareness-raising campaign aims to prevent the home accidents involving children aged 0-5. This is the second stage of the campaign. Unlike the first one, it will be broader and will involve more partners from different areas. “We want to reach all the homes where there are children and inform the parents about the methods of preventing household accidents,” said the coordinator of the project. The campaign is supported by the Health Ministry, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Deputy Minister of Health Gheorghe Turcanu said the goal is to heighten awareness of those who supervise children aged between 0 and 5 – parents, grandparents, relatives, siblings, babysitters – so as to reduce the number of home accidents to which the kids are exposed. “Sixty-two children younger than five died as a result of injuries, poisoning, drowning, suffocation and road accidents in the first eight months of 2011. We must prevent these accidents that make the children invalids or cause their death,” he said. Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Sergiu Sainciuc said efficient measures should be taken to protect the children. Within the project, the community social workers of six territorial units will be mobilized to pay visits to the deprived families with small children. Deputy Minister of the Interior Dumitru Ursachi said the Traffic Police Division will promote the use of car chairs for children and of the safety belt. According to statistics, one child is hurt in road accidents daily. In nine months of 2011, 22 children died in traffic accidents, while another 477 were injured. The campaign will also cover the kindergartens, where there will be worked out teaching modules for children of preschool age and educators’ guides for performing interactive activities. A website for parents, www.parinti.md, was launched within the project The campaign “Home without dangers for your child!” forms part of the Moldovan-Swiss technical and financial assistance project “Regionalization of the pediatric emergency and intensive care services” (REPEMOL).
