The head of the National Center for Child Abuse Prevention Daniela Sîmboteanu said at all ages the children have specific needs that the parents should meet, especially when it goes to adolescence. The parents should be wise and should offer the teens the possibility of navigating the external world, but should also transmit the message that they are always ready to respond to any of their needs, IPN reports.

“For the parent to be happy, an essential component is the good relations with those from the family, including children. Things determine each other – the family, children feel well when the parent is happy. If the parent is accomplished, all those from the family feel this wellness at emotional level and the connection between the family members is good,” Daniela Sîmboteanu stated in an online program staged by Mama.md and UNICEF Moldova.

All the good things, but also the bad things start from childhood. The adults perpetuate their feelings and experiences from childhood in the adult life. It is very important that things start well in childhood so that each child grows into a good parent. There are cases when the adults have unrealistic expectations of the children. In this case, the problem is not in the child. If a parent expects the teen to seek advice only from them, not to criticize any decision, to be permanently loyal to them, the problem resides in this expectation. The adolescents tend to separate themselves from the parents psychologically and then physically. The parents should understand the age particularities of the child and should not think that they are ignored.

Daniela Sîmboteanu urges the parents to assure their children that they are near them and are always ready to offer them support and advice. The parents are inclined to give advice and to state their opinions about the friends, occupations and preferences of children. It is very important for the teen to be listened to so as to know him/her better. “When there is sufficient communication space and we accept their emotions that may be different from our emotions, they realize that their feelings are understood and accepted,” stated the psychologist.
