Parents encouraged to raise children with mental disorders in family environment

During a year, the team of the Inclusive Community – Moldova Project reintegrated 15 children from the Orhei boarding school for children with severe mental disorders into their families and prevented the abandonment of another seven children, who were placed in residential institutions. The parents were encouraged to bring up the children in the family. In a communiqué quoted by Info-Prim Neo, the project s team says that a series of legislative and normative documents for regulating the social services provided to disabled persons have been drafted meanwhile. Two important documents are now under formulation: the bill on the social inclusion of the persons with disabilities and the draft regulations and quality standards for a protected home. Cooperation memorandums have been signed with four districts. The community services roadmap was worked out in 13 settlements. The first Community House service is being assessed, said project director Ludmila Malcoci. The Inclusive Community – Moldova Project is implemented as part of a partnership between the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child, Keystone Human Services International, Soros-Moldova Foundation and Hope and Homes for Children. The implementation period is 2008-2013.
