Thanks to the European Village government program, the Great Hall of the House of Culture in Costești was rehabilitated and thanks to international projects, the range of activities for young people in the locality was extended, the head of the Costești Socio-Cultural Center Parascovia Marandici stated in a public debate hosted by IPN. According to her, the Costești Socio-Cultural Center offers children and adults a wide range of educational and recreational activities.

Parascovia Marandici noted that the locality has an enormous tourist and cultural potential and the Costești Socio-Cultural Center has become a point of attraction for locals of all ages.

“We have tourist attractions in the locality which deserve to be seen, discovered and promoted, such as the Costești Tourist Complex, the Turnul Alb Pension. We have the archaeological site. Our library has over 1,200 readers annually. It includes over 20,000 books. Many events, book launches, exhibitions are hosted by the library. I urge all the young people to visit our multifunctional center because there they can benefit from activities that suit everyone’s taste,” said the director of the Costesti Socio-Cultural Center.

She also said that since the launch of the European Village program, the locality has obtained funds for the rehabilitation of the Great Hall of the House of Culture. Now the artists and spectators have modern conditions in the House of Culture and the number of cultural activities organized in Costești could be increased.

“In 2021, I was part of the team of a USAID-funded project that included the building of a playground in the square of the House of Culture. Being part of this team as a project assistant, I understood how to write projects correctly. We had the greatest joy in 2022, when the European Village program was launched. We applied to have the Great Hall of the House of Culture with 600 seats repaired. The House of Culture has a total of over 1,600 square meters. The amount for which we could apply was not enough for the entire building. So, we selected the Great Hall and the hall, which were rehabilitated. The project was successfully implemented,” related head of the Costești Socio-Cultural Center.

She said that in order to increase the civic engagement of young people in the locality, a Local Youth Council was created. Young people are involved in the process of writing projects with government or European funds.

“We have the Local Youth Council, whose activities are attended by 60 to 100 young people. We weekly organize meetings and various activities with young people. Every time I consult with them and try to organize what they want. Young people are also involved in writing projects. This year we were the beneficiaries of three projects. These are small projects. We equipped the local library with book to the value of 6,000 lei. 8,000 lei was earned by young people for board games and training courses. We won another project that provided training for young people. They learned how to correctly implement an activity plan, a strategy,” stated Parascovia Marandici.

The public debate entitled “EU investments in the cultural sector of the Republic of Moldova” was the ninth installment of the project “Benefits of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU for people, community and country”. The project is supported by Soros Foundation Moldova.
