“Democracy is like health, it was most desired when it missed”. Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici congratulated the people of Moldova on the occasion of the International Democracy Day, celebrated on September 15, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release of the Moldovan Parliament, Liliana Palihovici declared democracy must remain in Moldova so that each citizen could feel and harness it. The Deputy Speaker added that the democracy means respecting human rights, ensuring equality of chances for men and women, access to information and ensuring equitable justice. All this also requires the citizens’ participation. The UN General Assembly decided in 2008 that the International Democracy Day would be celebrated on September 15. The observance has a twofold meaning: to celebrate democracy and to remind people of the importance of promoting and protecting this universal value.
