The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is to hear today, May 14, the case of Paladi v. Moldova (e.n.: Ion Paladi was a deputy mayor of Chisinau), following the request of the Moldovan Government, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The five judges have accepted the Moldovan Government's request to send the case to the Grand Chamber. Up to now this is the only request to the Grand Chamber having been accepted in the cases against Moldova.
The former Chisinau mayor, Ion Paladi, was arrested in September 2004 together with other functionaries from the City Hall, being suspected of power abuse. He accused that, while in custody that he considers illegal, he did not get the necessary medical assistance, and was not transferred to hospital, as the doctors recommended. The ECHR condemned the Government on this issue in July 2007, establishing that a series of articles from the European HR Convention were violated. The Court obliged then the Moldovan Government to pay Paladi damages of 21,000 euros for moral and material prejudices and court expenses.
