Paintings by Romanian classics out of private collections have been exhibited at the Moldovan National Museum of Arts. Titled “Art Safari – Masters of Romanian Art”, the exhibition features late 19th and early 20th century works and is held for the first time in Chisinau to mark Romania’s National Day on December 1.

Ioana Ciocan, director of Art Safari Bucharest, said the exhibition includes works by Nicolae Grigorescu, Theodor Aman, Iosif Iser, Francisc Șirato and Corneliu Baba, among others. “These works are valuable not only for Romania, but also for the whole world”, she stated.

Andrei Chistol, state secretary of the Moldovan Ministry of Culture, said that the exhibition is a unique event in that it showcases works from private collections, and therefore less known by the general public. “It is a trend and an extraordinary element that can be promoted here, in Chisinau, and let’s try to discover those extraordinary paintings that are in private collections. We have always considered it important to promote as many bridges as possible between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. This event and many other events that we will do together will lead us to that common ideal and objective of promoting Romanian culture, of promoting Romanian cultural values on both sides of the Prut River”, said the official.

Those willing to explore the works of Romanian painters are invited to visit the exhibition between December 3, 2022 and January 22, 2023.
