The National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova, launched by the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), is a logical continuation of the November 3 assembly in sport of the European integration idea, which involved about 100,000 people, considers political analyst Viorel Cibotaru. He has told IPN that this initiative should be regarded from two perspectives – support for the European course and launch of the election campaign.

“The PLDM is in power and is the largest party in the government coalition. It entered politics based on the European initiatives. We are now approaching events that will mark the whole path covered by this party – the initialing of the Association Agreement and the abolition of the visa regime, which will significantly improve Moldova’s standing,” said the analyst.

Viorel Cibotaru considers that these evens should help the country to accumulate the necessary qualities for becoming a member of the EU in the future. “From this viewpoint, this pact is logical. The second aspect is the party’s strategic approach, the electoral aspect. An electoral year is coming and the parties start to take electoral steps. I saw the political initiatives of other parties. It is the beginning of a campaign,” said the analyst.

According to hum, one way or another, the measures taken to assert the European course are supported by diplomats, parties and the ordinary people. “It would be rational for other parties to join such pacts, but they will probably not do it as they want to build their own image in this competition. I think everyone will propose similar initiatives or they will find a formula for all the parties to be covered in an acceptable way,” said Viorel Cibotaru.

On November 18, the PLDM called on the leaders of all the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties, civil society and the ordinary people of Moldova to sign the National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova, which is a commitment as regards the European integration course. The signatories pledge to act in concert and to ensure the cohesion of whole society, elites, political forces, civil society and the people. They also commit themselves to ensure the continuity of the European integration process, despite provocations and pressure, and to promote the European integration as a national project and to mobilize society around this project.
