The Ministry of Justice submitted to the Government the package of bills concerning the anticorruption measures worked out with a view to ensuring the implementation of Pillar 4 “Integrity of justice players” of the justice sector reform strategy for 2011-2016. The package was approved by the Council of Europe and is aimed at discouraging acts of corruption, more severely punishing corruption offenses in the justice sector and building zero tolerance of corruption in the sector, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Justice, the bill prevents the judge from communicating with the participants in the trial or other persons if the communication concerns the case examined by the judge. It also suggests reviewing the Criminal Code penalties for corruption offences by increasing the fine and extending the length of the ban on holding public posts or carrying out certain activities.
The safety measure ‘extended confiscation’ will be included in the Criminal Code. The candidates for the posts of judge and prosecutor will obligatorily take the polygraph test.
The package also includes the bill on the testing of professional integrity whose goal is to prevent corruption in the law enforcement bodies and the public authorities.
