The package of anti-tobacco laws was examined and approved by the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities. It bans smoking in closed and semi-closed public places, at the workplace and in public units of transport and stipulates punishment for managers of places where smoking is banned and for smokers, IPN reports.

The bills were endorsed by all the lawmakers, except for the Liberal-Reformist MP Vadim Vacarciuc. He said that when something is banned, another vice appears. He gave as example a U.S. state where the people started to take drugs when smoking was banned there.

The bills provide that the units selling tobacco products must be located at a distance of at least 200 meters between them and of 50 meters from education and medical-sanitary institutions.

Direct or indirect advertisements for tobacco products, including on the radio and television, in the print media and in movie theaters, are banned. The stimulation of sales and promotion of tobacco products by sponsorship are also banned.
