PACE President to Visit Moldova

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Rene van der Linden, is going to pay a visit to Chisinau at the end of July and address a speech at the tribune of the Parliament of Moldova. According to the Parliament’s Press Service, this agreement made during the bilateral meeting at the initiative of PACE President with the speaker Marian Lupu, within the European Conference of Parliament Speakers, recently concluded in Tallinn. One of the main topics discussed by those two parliamentarians referred to the implementation by Moldova of the Legislative Actions Schedule, including the judicial system’s reform and adoption of the final version of the Audiovisual Code. Speaker Marian Lupu ensured the PACE President that all the projects included in this plan will be adopted till the end of the current session. The last PACE resolution regarding the situation in Moldova was approved by the Parliamentary Assembly on October 4, 2005. The main conclusion was that “along 10 years as member of the Council of Europe, Moldova advanced significantly on the path of democratic reforms, but a great number of engagements were not respected in a proper manner”. The authors emphasized matters related to mass media, justice, fighting corruption, etc. Rene van der Linden is holding presidential office of PACE since October 2005.
