PACE considering election of Moldovan judge to European Court

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is holding its fourth ordinary session October 1-5, during which it will consider, among other matters, the election of a judge in respect of Moldova to the European Court of Human Rights, Info-Prim Neo. The election issue is scheduled for Thursday, when PACE will also consider the list of candidates in respect of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and the Russian Federation. The list of candidates submitted by the Moldovan Government includes lawyers Valeriu Gritco and Mihail Buruiana, and Deputy Justice Minister Vladimir Grosu. Only one of them will become ECHR Judge with a simple majority vote of the Parliamentary Assembly. If a Judge is not elected in the first round, a second round of debates and election will be held on Wednesday. Vlad Turcanu, spokesperson for the Moldovan President, told Info-Prim Neo that on Wednesday Nicolae Timofti will deliver an address before the Parliamentary Assembly. In Strasbourg, the President will also meet with a number of European Commissioners.
