The implementation of reforms in Moldova in the process of coming closer to the EU was the main subject discussed by Head of Parliament Andrian Candu with the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Valentina Leskaj and Ögmundur Jonásson, who are in Moldova on a visit, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu referred to the priorities of the spring session of the legislature, namely the important package of laws aimed at overcoming a series of challenges faced by Moldova. He said that the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements with the EU are the most important roadmaps for the country.
“During the first sittings of Parliament, we intend to discuss and adopt about 50 draft legal acts, including the financial-banking package and the energy package. It is an important reform agenda that contains amendments on which we agreed together with the development partners,” stated Andrian Candu.
He reiterated the authorities’ readiness to implement the recommendations of the EU peer review mission of the rule of law institutions in Moldova, whose conclusions will be made public this spring.
The PACE co-rapporteurs encouraged the Moldovan authorities to work out and do the reforms needed to increase the living standards in the country.
The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Valentina Leskaj and Ögmundur Jonásson are paying a fact-finding visit to Moldova on February 22-23.
