The R34 Hâncești-Leova-Cahul-Giurgiulești road that is 83 km in length will be rehabilitated by the Turkish company Özka İnşaat A.Ş. The contract to the value of €56.5 million, with the money being lent by the EBRD, was signed on February 21, IPN reports.
The road was divided into two segments, of 42.2 km and of 40.8 km. The works on the whole road will last for three years. They will start immediately after the contactor obtains a construction authorization. The procedures can take up to four months.
State Road Administration director Andrei Cuculescu said the tender contest to choose the contractor was held last October through the electronic procurement portal of the EBRD. There were received 16 bids for the first road segment and 17 bids for the second road segment. Sixteen of the participating companies submitted bids for both of the segments. There were chosen the bidders with a turnover higher than €56 million, with building experience and with special road building equipment. The winner submitted the best bid. For Özka İnşaat, this is the first project implemented in Moldova.
The rehabilitated road could be used for 15-20 years.
This is the second center-south road that will essentially improve the travel conditions and road safety together with the Chisinau-Giurgiulești road that is now under repair, stated Andrei Cuculescu.
