Overnight rainfall amounted to two averages

The overnight rainfall in Chisinau reached 38 liters per square meter, which is twice the average. The information was communicated during City Hall’s meeting on Monday, based on the Weather Service data, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Veaceslav Tarna, head of the Public Transport and Communication Ways Department, the Station Alley and Tabacaria Veche Street were flooded. Less significant floods occurred at Albisoara and Ismail streets intersection and Albisoara and Renasterii Avenue crossway. Till morning the water was drained through sewage pits so there was no need for special measures to be taken, he said. The deputy chief of Exceptional Situations Department Liviu Marzenca mentioned the dangerous state of Gratiesti and Valea Gastei lakes, which could flood if it rained a lot. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca asked all the flood and landslide endangered area to be examined and monitored. Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Service for Civil Protection and Exceptional Situations, told Info-Prim Neo the last rainfall left 23 communities in central region without electricity, 10 in Calarasi, 9 in Nisporeni and 4 in Ungheni. A new flood of the Prut River is expected after heavy rainfalls in Ukraine. Experts forecast the level of water will rise by 2.5—3.5 meters.
