A television set left on unattended sparked a house fire on Thursday midnight.
Liliana Puscasu, senior officer at the Fire & Rescue Dept., has told Info-Prim Neo that the fire broke out exactly at midnight in a home in Baraboi village, Donduseni district. The blaze spread rapidly, causing damages to property estimated at 35,000 lei.
Shortly after midnight, the passenger compartment of a Lada car, parked in the courtyard in Elizavetovca village, Donduseni district, burned down. Circumstantial evidence indicated a potential arson. Police are investigating to establish the arsonist.
A burning cigarette sparked a fire on a balcony on the 7th floor of a residential block on Muncesti Street in Chisinau. The flames caused damages to the content of the balcony, destroyed two windows and the balcony door, and climbed to the 8th floor. Three fire crews on ladder trucks managed to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby apartments.
Over the past 24 hours, 6 fires were recorded in Moldova. 27 fires occurred in April, claiming 2 lives; 623 fires were registered since the beginning of the year, with a death toll of 86, including two children.
