The World Bank offers a grant of US$365,000 for improving the education system of Moldova. Parliament ratified the grant agreement between Moldova and the International Development Agency to implement the project “Strengthening the capacities of the Education Management Information System”, IPN reports.

Minister of Education Corina Fusu said the Education Management Information System is an efficient and absolutely necessary mechanism for ensuring the formulation of policies in the education system. The lack of data and personnel for including these data in the system can lead to the appearance of incorrect information. “When analyzing the situation, a discrepancy was discovered between the data from the system and the real ones. We thus decided to remedy the situation,” said the minister.

The money will be used for three purposes: to consolidate the Ministry’s statistics; to strengthen the Ministry’s information system by purchasing software to analyze the included data, and to open the data from the education system to a larger number of beneficiaries.

Liberal-Democratic MP Maria Ciobanu said the Ministry of Education earlier showed that it could not correctly manage particular grants and voiced hope that this money will be distributed correctly.

The head of the Communist faction Inna Supac said the Ministry, instead of looking for grants to prevent the closure of schools, attracts grants for working out new optimization policies.

Democratic MP Valentina Buliga asked to pay special attention to the opening of the data from the education system. According to her, the database should be opened to the social assistance authorities so as to help these fight violence against children.
